Ferry Corsten’s Once Upon A Night @ Palladium Hollywood
On Friday, April 2nd I attended Ferry Corsten’s Once Upon A Night at the Palladium in Hollywood.
Location - 5/10
Located in the heart of Hollywood, the traffic there wasn’t too bad that night. However, driving around Hollywood to find cheaper parking or street parking would have been a bigger inconvenience than it needed to be given it was Hollywood. The Palladium had parking which was $15. That is like rape price. It was a chilly night too so parking closer had its benefits.
Decor - 6/10
It didn’t anything that was too fancy about the Palladium. It did have a balcony area on the left and right side of the main floor, which I found nice and convenient. The light effects were good. I’m a big fan of closing my eyes at these events so having the lights dance across my eyelids gives a good effect w/ Trance music. Though the strobe lights were a bit blinding, literally lit up the entire venue. Bright.
Dance Floor - 8/10
The Palladium had a huge main floor so its good that it can fit everybody.
Sound - 4/10
When I first entered the venue I didn’t think it was so bad. Maybe they didn’t turn up the sound because Ferry wasn’t on yet? Anyways, I managed to get myself 15 feet away from the front railing of the DJ booth. I thought the sound there was good. We were slightly in front of the left speakers or behind it, given how many asshats tried to squeeze themselves closer or how many people were stepping all over me. I left my spot because these 2 girls there was rolling were literally rolling all over the place behind me. One bang her head against mines and I thought it was funny. They were kicking and flailing, real bitches ruining my night. Seriously, if you’re going to do that shit, do it in the back or the side so the others can enjoy the fucking music. So when I left the my spot, I headed over side of the club on the floor and wow the sound was pretty piercing. I walked to the back and it just got worst. Bad acoustics and overall bad placement of the speakers. I didn’t have earplugs and I felt the horrible sound really just killed the show. So if you ain’t down in front, get ready to have your ears raped.
Crowd - 2/10
I’ve been to a few events and even Nocturnal Festival didn’t have as many douchebags. I think the location of the event just lured them out. Not cool. Just not cool.
Conclusion
Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be returning to the Palladium unless my favorite DJ plays there. If you do go, bring your earplugs or get ‘em there for $2. There is also coat check I believe for another $2.
